Do I need permits for the Upper Mustang Trek?

 

Yes, you need the special Mustang permits to trek in the Upper Mustang region. The Upper Mustang is a restricted area due to its proximity to the Tibet Border and to protect the local culture as well as control of trekkers.

When you reach Kagbeni Village, you enter a restricted area, and you should have a Restricted area permit. The Special Upper Mustang trek permit costs USD 500 per person for 10 Days. If you want to spend longer. You'll need to pay an additional fee of USD 50 per day. Also, you must obtain the Annapurna Conservation Area Project Permit. The permit fees are below:

Can I do the Upper Mustang trek without a Guide?
