The Langtang National Park to the (Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal) TAAN and (Nepal Tourism Board) NTB requesting the mandatory use of the Trekking guide while entering the Langtang National Park. NTB and TAAN request that trekking agencies stand by the rules and regulations set by Langtang National Park.

Now, at the request of Langtang National Park, Trekking Agencies Associations of Nepal (TAAN), and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the Nepal government has decided to ban entering Langtang Region trekking routes without a trekking guide or nature guide.

This rule is a consequence of 15th /02/2025 and clearly states that Langtang region trekking without a guide is banned. Previously, the Nepal government decided that trekking in Nepal was not allowed without a guide on 01st April 2023.

However, this regulation received considerable backlash from the worldwide communities and tourism workers of Nepal. Thus, the Nepal Government backed out of this rule. There are still several places where you cannot trek without a government-registered trekking guide team.

Why is Langtang Region Trekking not allowed without a trekking Guide?

The main purpose behind this rule of the solo trekking ban in the Langtang is the topography. The Langtang Region trekking is inside the Langtang National Park. The vegetation and wildlife inside the National Park make it challenging for solo trekkers to traverse and find the right walking trail. There were diverse occurrences of trekkers missing, accidents, and deaths of travelers. Thus, the Nepal Government decided that trekking is not allowed without a guide.

Along the Langtang Region Trekking, there are several dense forests, rivers, high-altitude passes, landslide areas, and wasteland areas in the trekking to Langtang Region of Nepal. Therefore, if you are a solo trekker, then there will be a high chance of you getting missing in this route.

In case of crises, lots of solo travelers or independent traveler groups without guides did not get assistance on time. During these times, lots of incidents happened including the death of a trekker. This occurrence started to mass up especially in the Langtang region trekking. Thus, this rule of exclusion of solo and independent groups without a guide in Langtang came into effect. This is a good move by the Langtang National Park Authority and Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) for the safety of trekkers. Therefore, we request all travelers/trekkers across the international and national trekkers to note that Langtang region trekking without a guide is banned.
