When to go on the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, and combine with the Annapurna Base Camp?

The Ghorepani Poon Hill combined with the Annapurna Base Camp 11-day trek can be done throughout the year. However, the best times to discover the trek are autumn and spring. Autumn runs from September to November, and spring from March, April, and May.

Additionally, in the spring, the weather is generally stable with suitable temperatures, and the sky will be clear. In this period, you will have a chance to observe the numerous flowers blooming and wildlife thriving around the Himalayas.  Especially, you can see the National flower of rhododendrons in white, pink, and red.

During autumn, temperatures become cooler, but the weather will be ideal, and the vegetation around the Himalaya will be in full bloom. From mid-December onward, temperatures become colder and snowfall above 2000 meters, we do not recommend high-pass treks in Nepal. So, if you are considering exploring the rural valley of Nepal. You can hike to Poon Hill with the Annapurna Base Camp trek, which is the perfect destination in Nepal.

Accommodation during the trek

Along the trek route, you will be staying at tea houses/lodges. You will stay in comfortable, basic rooms with a bed sheet, pillow, blanket, and mattress. But at the low altitudes trek route, you may get the best room with an attached bathroom.

Foods

Nutritious food is essential during the trek. We ensure you will get nutritious and hygienic meals throughout the trip. However, the food options are limited compared to Kathmandu and Pokhara. We will provide 11 breakfasts, 10 lunches, and 9 dinners during the trek. All meals during the trek are provided on a full-board basis (B+L+D): Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

We chose the best tea houses/lodges that offer fresh, hygienic, tasty, and nutritious meals. Our Guide will provide a menu and select food items such as European, Chinese, Indian, and Nepali dishes. You need to try popular Nepali dishes, mainly Dal Bhat Tarkari with Curry and Pickle, Momo, Chow Mein, Thukpa, Spaghetti, Chapatti, Noodle soup, and a variety of food items.

We recommend fresh vegetables and sufficient drinks like lemon tea, ginger tea, green tea, and garlic soup at high elevations. These may help reduce the risk of altitude sickness. Through the trek, Non-vegetarian food is also available at the trekking route, but we do not recommend these dishes, as they might not be fresh. We also suggest you avoid alcoholic drinks in the high altitude region.

All Personal bills like alcoholic drinks, tea, coffee, and cold drinks in lodges, cafes, or restaurants. It is not included in the package trip; you should pay for it yourself.

Some travel Tips (ATM, Wi-Fi, Electricity, Tipping, and Personal Expenses) during the trek

  • There are no ATMs or Bank facilities during the trek. You should carry sufficient Nepali Rupees (NPR) in cash from Kathmandu or Pokhara.

  • Wi-Fi is available at the tea houses/lodges, but the internet service is not reliable. We highly recommend buying a Local SIM Card with data packages in Kathmandu or Pokhara, such as an NTC SIM card.

  • Along the trek route, you can charge the Mobile and Camera battery through electricity or solar power, but you may need to pay an additional fee.

  • The Annapurna Base Camp trek with Ghorepani Poon Hill package trip cost does not cover personal expenses such as shopping, tea, coffee, hard and soft drinks, and Nepal Visa fee, international flight tickets.

  • Tipping is optional but appreciated. Many trekkers tip guides and porters based on service quality and group size. If you are especially satisfied with the team, then as you wish.

Trip Review

I recently completed the Ghorepani Poon Hill and Annapurna Base Camp trek with Himalayan Local Guide, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. The entire journey was incredibly well organized, and the agency demonstrated a high level of professionalism from start to finish.

A special mention goes to my guide, Basantha, who truly made this trek unforgettable. He was always kind, attentive, and ready to help in any situation. Whether it was adjusting the pace, offering encouragement during more challenging sections, or simply making sure everything was running smoothly, Basantha was consistently supportive and reliable.

His deep knowledge of the region, combined with his genuine care for my well-being, made me feel safe and comfortable throughout the trek. I always felt that I was in good hands.

I highly recommend Himalayan Local Guide to anyone looking for a well-organized trekking experience in Nepal, and if you have the chance, ask for Basantha as your guide—you won’t regret it!
